Room: 9/10

A common occurrence with hotel rooms is that suites are often far superior to regular rooms and can drastically impact the experience you have at a hotel. At Suite Life Traveler, we factor this into our room scoring to ensure that just because a suite is bigger or more impressive, it does not outweigh the score of a regular room.

I stayed in a Premier Sea-View Room for approximately $285 USD (before tax and fees) and is the second lowest tier of accommodation at the Four Seasons. For a Four Seasons, that is incredible value when most properties are around $1,000 USD per night.

This is one of the best room products I have stayed in, especially for a ‘Standard’ room. Fresh off a renovation, the room is the definition of modern luxury and has the ‘Wow’ factor when you walk in. You’re immediately struck by the light white / cream theme that is consistent across all the materials and surfaces in the room. This is a pleasant change to many hotels that use darker woods to accent their rooms.

The room features a small balcony that you can step out onto and this room type, looks out onto the sea where you can see the swimming pool, marina, Nobu restaurant, some of the city, and Hamad International Airport in the distance. It’s a beautiful view both during the day and night and is a welcome addition to the space.

The bathroom contains both a shower and bathtub and is stocked with Diptyque Amenities (Qatar seems to like Diptyque!). The bed is extremely comfortable, you get a large TV, many charging points and all the items you’d expect from a 5-Star hotel.

Service: 9.5/10

The service at the Four Seasons Hotel Doha was excellent, in fact, some of the best service I’ve received to date. The arrival process was seamless and the check-in process was fast and efficient. The gentlemen checking me in was very friendly and super helpful providing information about the hotel and tips on where to spend my night in Doha. The high level of service continued throughout my stay and across all the F&B outlets which we will delve into next.

Food & Beverage: 8/10

This is one of the rare occasions where I got to try the majority of F&B options at a hotel and the Four Seasons has plenty of options and variety.

I started at Nobu for happy hour, which is at the end of the marina overlooking the hotel (pictured above). From the roof deck, you have stunning views of the hotel and many of the skyscrapers that fill the city skyline. If you visit Doha, happy hour at Nobu is a must not just for the views, but the food and appetizers were excellent! The restaurant itself was huge, but extremely quiet, and seemed as though almost no one was dining there for dinner.

The quietness continued at their restaurant Curiosa which is a new concept by Jean-Georges. Other than myself, there was only one other table of two eating dinner. While the atmosphere and energy were lacking, the food, drink, and service made up for it. I was impressed by the quality of the food and the cocktails were excellent. The one thing that stood out the most was the service, it was really impressive. It probably helped that the restaurant was empty, but I had great and engaging conversations with the restaurant staff, who were all international and had really interesting stories about how they moved to Doha to work for Four Seasons.

I ended the night at the Library Lounge which is their cocktail and cigar bar. Like with Nobu and Curiosa, there were only two other people at the bar, which impacted the atmosphere. That being said, and as was the case with Curiosa the service made up for it and it was a very nice nightcap.

Lobby & Facilities: 8.5/10

In my opinion, every great hotel has a grand entrance which is highlighted by a beautiful lobby. The ‘wow’ factor should start with walking through the doors for the first time.

The drive into the Four Seasons is quite grand and upon exiting your vehicle you’re escorted into a large marbled lobby. Unlike the rooms, it seems as though the lobby hasn’t been renovated yet, and is more of an old-school luxury marble theme. If the lobby followed the same design as the rooms, I could see this scoring close to a 10.

In terms of facilities, the hotel has everything you can ask for, 10 different F&B outlets, a beautiful swimming pool, a marina, a rooftop (at Nobu), boutique stores, a spa, and a gym. To have all of this, and not feel overwhelmed by the size is an impressive feat.

Atmosphere: 6/10

When staying at a hotel, I believe the atmosphere is an important aspect that adds to the experience, especially at a 5-star property. While the Four Seasons Hotel Doha excels in almost every category we’ve rated them on, they fall short here. Based on my time at the hotel, it lacked energy, especially at the F&B outlets, and is due to the lack of patrons and hotel guests. There were maybe 10 people at Nobu, 2 people at Curiosa, and 2 people at Library Bar, and this was certainly not down to the quality of food or service. This may be a bigger problem due to the lack of tourists visiting Doha after the World Cup and an oversupply of hotels.

Overall: 41/50

I can confidently say that the Four Seasons Hotel Doha is one of the best value for money 5-star hotel experiences you can get. From the incredible room product, fantastic service, and excellent food and beverage offerings, you certainly won’t be disappointed with a stay here.
